Opening accounts

When you open a new account on a betting site or app, gambling businesses must provide you with the following information:

Check if a company is licensed before you open an account

The company that owns the betting app or website must have a Gambling Commission licence.

There are three ways to check:

  1. Look for a link to the Gambling Commission website, usually at the bottom of the homepage.

  2. Check the website has a link to our Gambling Commission public register. The register should list the businesses' licence.

  3. Check whether the details on the licence (including activities and website domain names) match the public licence register.

Reporting illegal activity

If the gambling business doesn't have a licence it is acting illegally and we can take regulatory action against them. You can report illegal activity to us confidentially.
