Who we are
Find out about the organisational structure of the Commission and the committees that inform our decision making process.
The Gambling Commission was set up under the Gambling Act 2005 (opens in new tab). It is our responsibility to regulate the individuals and businesses that provide gambling in Great Britain, including the National Lottery.
We work in partnership with licensing authorities to ensure gambling businesses are compliant in order to make gambling safer and fairer.
Our organisational structure
There are two groups which form the highest level of governance for the Gambling Commission.
They ensure we are open and accountable in our work:
-
Board of Commissioners
Our independent commissioners are appointed by the Secretary of State for Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.
-
Senior leadership team
Our corporate leadership and strategic decision making team.
Committees
We have committees to ensure our decisions are made openly. Each group has specific areas of expertise for gambling-related issues.
You can also see committee membership details for our commissioners and senior leadership team.
Independent groups
We have independent groups who advise us on the ways that the digital gambling industry and consumer behaviour is changing. Each group gives expert advice which guides and influences our regulatory approach.
Governance framework
The corporate governance framework sets out the necessary responsibilities and procedures that guarantee we operate properly.
